Don’t Lost Your Head - Short film

For my Advanced Video Production class I helped work on a classmate’s short film - Don’t Lose Your Head. On set I was the VFX supervisor and helped make sure that we had everything we would need for post such as clean plates and tracking marker. In post I worked on around 25 VFX shots for this short film. Most of these shots were either removing the head from the main character’s body or removing the body and leaving just their head. This project is where I learned and gained experience on many compositing tools and workflows.

I utilized Dynamic Link to easily work between Premiere Pro and After Effects. I learned many compositing techniques while working on this short film including using garbage mattes and PNG sequences to help speed up my workflow and render times. To remove the head or the body I primarily used rotobrush and did a second pass with a manual mask.

These two shots had a camera move on a manual slider and had to have two versions of the shot. I used After Effect’s tracker to lock the head onto the table/fridge to keep it from skating around during the camera move.
